Widgy
Hi, my name is Widgy and I’m a special needs Umbrella Cockatoo girl.
I do talk a little bit, and often hold grumbly conversations when I think my piece needs to be said. I sing and dance and love my music. I can also be a loud thing when I don't get my own way because I am a Cockatoo and we are born to be loud! I can’t fly at all because of an accident a long time ago, but I’m quite happy climbing up and down and wandering around on the floor looking for mischief to get into.
I do prefer a lady to look after me, and preferably a lady who wears glasses. I will tolerate a man who gives me my space at a distance, but I’ll only ever give my heart to a lady, at my own pace and in my own time.
I have to tell you that I do nip at my feathers, and sometimes I’ll pull a blood feather and make myself bleed. I don’t do this very often, and it’s not something that I can help, really. I am not a naked chicken by any means, I just seem to take a dislike when I spot any yellow in my feathers. Helping me with the pins that I can’t reach on my head and giving me a nice warm spray bath regularly helps with this.
I’m a good eater, I eat J&J low sunflower and Hari Tropicaan Pellets. My safehouse mum says these are my very special naughty treats – and I believe her because she would never lie to me - would she ? I make soup with my food in my water bowls all the time, so once I've finished making it, I need clean water so that I can make more. I love my fresh fruit and veggies and will try anything that my safehouse mum is eating with me around. She goes and eats in another place sometimes, and I know she’s doing it, so I do my big shout and giggle stick noise until she comes to give me something. I also get my nice flavour in my water, that safehouse mum calls, “vitamin drops” that my vet gave me when I couldn't lay my egg in the middle of lockdown. The vet says that I need it and I agree because I like how it tastes in my water.
I tolerate one other big bird like the African Grey here at my safehouse, but I really don’t like the little birds here. They fly around me far too fast and flying birds scare me a lot. I panic when little birds are flying. I panic less when it’s a big bird, but really I would like to be an only bird. Flying is scary. I also sometimes forget that I can’t fly when things change in my space and I land with a THUMP If I get startled. This doesn’t happen very often, but it does mean that my cage and perches are lower than usual, and I need my ladders to climb down myself or for you to come and get me fast if I need to go somewhere. I don’t mind if you go out in the morning and give me a long lie-in, but afternoons and evenings, I like to be out with you and do everything that you’re doing and I will start to shout if you’re late. I will help you clean and tidy by dancing to you scrubbing my cage. I’ll sit with you to watch TV - no flying birds please - and I’ll even help you play computer games. If you include me in everything, I’m happy. Can you be my special lady? I really would like to settle down with you and be your Widgy-Woo.
Thank you so much for agreeing to sponsor me! I just need a few details from you.
